MBM Contracting – Project Spotlight

Children’s Hospital Hematology Oncology

MBM worked closely with Children’s Hospital of UPMC of Pittsburgh to complete the upgrades to their existing Hematology Oncology Outpatient Clinic on the 9th floor of the hospital. The project included renovations to 6,500 SF of space including multiple exam rooms, triage rooms, infusion area, staff lounge, work space, reception check-in, and conference rooms. Detailed coordination was required to successfully complete this project as the project space is located directly above the NICU. Planning of shutdowns was critical to minimize disruptions. The project was completed on time within the four-month schedule.

Butler Hospital Hybrid OR

MBM Contracting was selected as the Construction Manager for the Butler Hospital Hybrid OR project. Construction occurred in four main rooms including the perfusion room, Toshiba equipment room, control room, and Hybrid OR. The existing Cardiac OR was reconfigured for the new Hybrid OR. Overhead structural steel, lead shielding and monitors were added. The room was expanded to make room for medical staff performing the TAVR procedure, which is a minimally invasive cardiac surgery. This was a six-month project starting in March 2016 and ending September 2016.

MBM Happenings

KDKA Girls Rock Science!

MBM participated in KDKA’s second annual “Girls Rock Science” event on September 24th & 25th at the Carnegie Science Center. We were proud to sponsor as partners with both McKamish and The Keystone + Mountain + Lakes Regional Council of Carpenters. The event is a two-day exhibit geared toward educating girls about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers. We hope to have inspiried young girls to consider a career in construction! Kids had the opportunity to try on safety vests and hard hats, learn how to install accessories, talk to our carpenters, and learn about the construction industry. You can read more about the event here.

Louis Fabrizi

Project Manager & Estimator
MBM Contracting Inc.

Lou joined the MBM team in 2010 as a project manager and estimator. He has 35 years of experience in the construction industry. Lou manages both renovation and new construction projects in the healthcare, retail, corporate, and higher education fields. He is most proud of the project he recently completed for the Jewish Community Center’s Early Childhood Development Center. The project was performed on a very tight schedule and it greatly improved the learning environment for young children. Lou has a beautiful wife, two terrific daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson, four dogs, and a cat. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, working out, playing ice hockey, and riding his bike. His most memorable vacations were a trip to Riviera Maya he took with his wife and a golf trip to Ireland with friends. He hopes to one day vacation in Italy, play a round at Oakmont Country Club, and attend a Formula 1 race in Monaco!

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy seeing the progress of a job on a weekly basis. It is satisfying to see a project rise from nothing to its completed form and then being able to say “yeah, that was my project” to family and friends.

So far what is your favorite part about working at MBM?

Everybody backs everyone up- no one is left out on an island. If for some reason you’re shorthanded, somebody has your back (including the owners). Profits are important, but pleasing the clients comes first.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…

I partied with Jimmy Buffet while in college, years back while sailing in Florida, the mast on our sailboat broke and we were lost at sea for over 20 hours before the Coast Guard rescued us, and I am a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work.
