AHN Forbes Hospital Elevator Tower & ICU

MBM provided Construction Management services to complete the build-out of 21,800 SF of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) space and a new 13,400 SF eight-story elevator tower addition at Forbes Hospital. The ICU project included a new 20-bed ICU and renovation of an existing 13-bed ICU on the 6th floor of the hospital. The elevator tower provides access from the surgical department to every floor in the hospital. A renovation to the emergency department intake and waiting areas was also included the project scope.

UPMC Shadyside Hospital Living Wall

MBM was selected as the general contractor for the construction of a 12-foot tall, 120-foot long green wall outside of the UPMC Shadyside Hospital Emergency Entrance. The colorful planters were filled with various unique flowers like Jack Frost, Creeping Jenny, Crimson Curls, Lime Ricky, Blue Ivory, Cat’s Meow, Lady’s Mantle and more. In between the planters are plenty of faux green panels to fill in the green wall. The lights under the planters illuminate the wall, showing the beautiful wall even at night.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…

I had an awesome salt water reef aquarium, I am married to my older brother’s wife’s sister (we actually met at the rehearsal dinner!), and I will not eat mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, or relish for any amount of money.

What is your favorite part about working with MBM?
The care MBM takes to do good work, satisfy the client, and work as a part of the project team.

Tell us about your family.
My husband is also an architect and works on his own, on residential projects. My son just started third grade and loves reading, Legos, drawing, and all of the hobbies and interests I listed for myself (luckily). My parents live in Iowa and continue to farm the land my father grew up on. They are working very hard to turn my son into a farmer, too. My father-in-law is a retired architect and seems to be encouraging my son toward that career path. My mother-in-law (classical studies major) just wants to make sure he takes Latin. I don’t remember anyone being that interested in my career options when I was in third grade.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…
I worked on the Cook County Replacement Hospital project, I developed 10 cavities my first year out of college due to an overindulgence in “gummi peaches”, and I played basketball and was a high-jumper in high school.
