MBM Contracting – Project Spotlight
UPMC Heritage Place Renovations
In keeping with their efforts to continually provide state-of-the-art facilities to their patients and residents, UPMC knew it was time to upgrade all three floors of Heritage Place. The facility, located in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill, provides skilled nursing to senior residents. MBM was hired as the general contractor to provide interior renovations to all three floors of the building. The alterations included upgrades to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, nurse call systems, and interior finishes. A total of 85 rooms received renovations as well as three nurse stations, three central bath facilities, the main lobby, physical therapy space, activity space, and dining room. The building’s elevators also received complete renovations. The building remained occupied and operational throughout construction. Because of this, construction occurred over ten phases within 32 months, and required special attention to infection control. The final phase was completed in December 2016.
Restaurant Holdings realized the demand for a new steakhouse in Wexford, so they began the restaurants transformation from Atria’s to Ditka’s. The project included the demolition of multiple interior walls to provide a more open bar dining area. The booths, mirrors, drapes, doors, light fixtures, carpet, and furniture were removed and replaced to match Ditka’s neutral color palette. The entire restaurant was repainted. The hostess stand and adjacent wall were removed and rebuilt. Unique artwork, oak wood trim, stone accents, and black acoustic ceilings were added. Ditka’s Wexford opened its doors on November 1, 2016.
MBM Annual Retreat
MBM had their first Annual Retreat on December 23rd. All office staff enjoyed a delicious brunch from a local cafe, followed by a “2016 Review” presentation. To cap off the fun day the staff divided into two teams and tried to concur the Escape Room. One lucky team, the “MBM Chompers”, escaped with ten minutes to spare. The other team, the “MBM Winos” couldn’t escape the room and had to deal with some heavy gloating from the Chompers. Overall it was a great way to recap the year and do something different as a team.

Vice President of Development
MBM Contracting, Inc.
Bryan is the “B” in MBM and decided to make the move from a Pittsburgh law firm as a Banking & Finance Attorney to MBM last August. Bryan does a little bit of everything at MBM, handling MBM’s legal needs as an in-house counsel, as well as any administrative or managerial needs that come up. For Bryan the opportunity to work with family every day was too enticing to pass up. In his spare time he likes to golf in the summer and snowboard in the winter. He has a long list of life goals but the one he’s hoping to achieve, if technology makes it an affordable and realistic possibility, is to take a trip into space
What do you like about working at MBM?
The people are great and they genuinely care about the well-being of both clients and employees.
What was your favorite vacation?
I visited Thailand this past summer. The best part of the trip was a three-day hike through the jungle where we stayed in native villagers’ bamboo homes each night.
Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…
While interning at the Securities & Exchange Commission during law school I was part of a team tasked with investigating the 2008 financial crisis, which was the most interesting work I’ve ever done. My favorite movie is the Usual Suspects. I’ve lived in 6 different states in the past 5 years.

What’s the first project you partnered with MBM on?
NAI Pittsburgh evolved from a company once known as PWC Property Solutions. In 1994 PWC and MBM constructed a Laboratory in Parkway Center with only six months to erect a 20,000 sq ft addition that joined building three and four into one building with a 60,000 sq ft full blown laboratory. Over the last 25 years together we’ve completed projects like Duolingo Pittsburgh headquarters, 4 moms headquarters (90,000 sq ft in 12 weeks), and dozens of full building renovations from 5,000 to 100,000 sq ft from $10,000 to $11 Million.
What do you like about working with MBM?
Honesty, loyalty, friendly, high competence within all of their employees from top to bottom. Never miss a deadline, always analyze a project with concern for cost and efficiency, minimum if any change orders unless major changes in scope.
Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…
I enjoy building and racing dirt track stock cars with my son. I taught CCD for 23 years. I will never give an answer to someone that I am not 100% sure of without doing additional research.
Over the past 21 years MBM has fulfilled 21 child wishes and donated over $74,000 to Make-A-Wish. This year we decided to present the check in person during the radio broadcast at One Oxford Centre. After all these years it was great to meet the leadership behind this incredible organization that helps to make life better for kids with life-threatening medical conditions. MBM receives dozens of requests for donations from various groups but Make-A-Wish is one group MBM will never hesitate to support each year.
